What is FIRST LEGO League?

First LEGO League is for grades 4th through 8th.

Each year FIRST releases a new challenge that is based on a universal topic From these topics FLL is broken down into three different components that teams will compete in:

Project:

This is where the teams figure out an innovative solution to the challenge given. After that the kids research the problem and solution, create a presentation, design a power point or use some other method to demonstrate the solution to others.

Core Values:

These are the foundation of the FIRST program. Some examples of Core Values are:

•Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.

•Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems

•Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world

•Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences

•Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together•We share our experiences with others.

Core Values distinguishes FIRST from other competitions by promoting teamwork and cooperation.

Robot:

This is where the teams come together to build a unique robot to complete the given tasks. Robots are built and programmed using the LEGO MINDSTORM components. Teams compete head to head at competitions to maximize their points from the list of tasks.

FIRST LEGO League is the second part of our three stage program. It promotes individuality while working as a team, creative and logical thinking, and most importantly having fun. It is a great place to jump into the FIRST program.
